Welcome to the First ENACT Newsletter!
We are excited to launch the first edition of ENACT newsletter—a space where we will keep you informed about our latest developments, technical milestones, and community activities. ENACT is not just another European research initiative—it’s a collective mission to reshape how we design, manage, and deploy intelligent, distributed applications across the IoT-Edge-Cloud continuum. In this issue, we will begin with a comprehensive introduction to the project from our coordinator. We then explore how ENACT innovations will be validated through challenging use cases, followed by an in-depth look at one of the project’s key pillars: its open-source strategy. We conclude by highlighting some of our most significant achievements to date. Enjoy the read!
Project’s Coordinator Note
ENACT is laying the foundations for a dynamic and intelligent Cognitive Computing Continuum (CCC), enabling the deployment of data-intensive applications across edge and cloud infrastructures. At the heart of this effort is a robust architecture that combines orchestration, AI-driven optimization, secure data handling, and compliance with the EU AI Act.
The project’s potential will be demonstrated through three real-world use cases: low-latency sports broadcasting, immersive VR coverage of the Regata de la Concha, and a digital twin for urban mobility and emissions tracking. Over its first year, ENACT has achieved key milestones, including the design of its reference architecture, early component integration, and the release of open-source tools via the Eclipse Foundation.
We’d like to share the journey we’ve taken so far—where we’re headed, the goals driving us, the architecture we’ve built, how it all comes together in our use cases, and what we’ve achieved along the way.

Use Cases Driving ENACT Innovation
To ensure that ENACT’s technological innovations address real-world challenges, the project is validated through three diverse use cases spanning media, mobility, and immersive experiences. These pilots are not only a testbed for ENACT’s capabilities but also a window into the transformative potential of the Cognitive Computing Continuum. The selected scenarios include: enhanced live sports broadcasting through AI-driven annotation and edge-cloud optimization; immersive and interactive regatta coverage powered by XR technologies; and smart mobility applications using Digital Twins for emissions and air quality monitoring. In this section, we introduce each use case and explore how ENACT technologies are being deployed to deliver impactful, scalable solutions across sectors.

Use Case 1: Enhancing Live Sports with ENACT
Broadcasting live sports comes with its own set of challenges—especially when dealing with high volumes of multimedia data in real time. In this use case, MOG Technologies will leverage ENACT to transform the way sports content is captured, processed, and delivered. By tapping into the power of the edge-cloud continuum, the solution enables seamless live annotation of matches without the need for manual intervention. The result? Lower latency, richer metadata, and a smarter, more efficient production pipeline.
Curious how ENACT is changing the game for live sports broadcasting?

Use Case 2: An Immersive Broadcasting Experience Powered by ENACT
What happens when tradition meets cutting-edge tech? ENACT’s second use case brings a fresh perspective to the iconic Regata de la Concha by combining edge computing, real-time data processing, and VR to radically reduce latency and boost interactivity. Spectators can now experience the race as if they were right there on the water—with live GPS tracking, onboard camera views, and even audience polls. Curious to see how ENACT is transforming live sports into fully immersive experiences?

Use Case 3: Shaping Sustainable Mobility with ENACT
How can we make our cities greener and our mobility smarter? ENACT’s third use case, led by Fujitsu, shows the way with a powerful combination of edge computing, digital twins, and AI. By tracking CO₂ emissions and air quality at street level—and simulating real-world scenarios in real time—this pilot helps businesses and city planners make informed, sustainable decisions. Curious how it works?
ENACT Presence at Key Events
88th Thessaloniki International and Science and Research Day in University of Western Macedonia
EUCEI’s Open Continuum Final Conference – Cognitive Continuum Cluster

ENACT was showcased at the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair through a dedicated booth by UOWM, engaging with over 220,000 visitors. The project presented its innovations in edge-cloud orchestration for autonomous systems, fostering dialogue with industry and policymakers. Additionally, ENACT was featured during UOWM’s Science and Research Day, attended by EC Vice-President Margaritis Schinas, underlining the project’s commitment to scientific dissemination and stakeholder engagement.
At the EUCEI Open Continuum Final Conference in Brussels (June 2024), ENACT joined forces with Horizon Europe projects to advance edge-to-cloud integration. Through panel participation and cluster collaboration, ENACT showcased its innovations in resource optimization and service orchestration. Engaging with EC representatives and industry leaders, the project reinforced its role in shaping policy and technological strategy for applications like autonomous mobility and the metaverse within the Cognitive Computing Continuum.
